Mrs. Crystal Jones Woodard was born into a US Army family, the daughter of Charles and Billie Jones, alongside her three sisters and brother in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. The Army-Brat lifestyle allowed the Jones family to experience life both overseas and in the US. After settling in Radcliff, KY, Crystal graduated from North Hardin High School. She then attended Kentucky State University, where she earned an undergraduate degree in Social Work, actively participating as a cheerleader and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Continuing her education, she pursued a graduate degree at Ohio State University, earning her MSW and later becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Kentucky. Crystal began her career at the VA hospital in 1993, dedicating her life’s work to caring for and advocating for military veterans. In 1998, she married James Woodard, and together they enjoyed twenty-four years of marriage until her passing. In 2018, Crystal was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and underwent various chemotherapy and radiation treatments over the next four years. While managing her own health struggles, she became a natural cheerleader for a global community of women facing similar challenges, encouraging them along the way. Crystal identified a critical need for essential resources such as transportation, proper nutrition, and wellness support, as well as higher-level needs like breast cancer studies and genetic testing. Her commitment to improving the lives of those diagnosed with and at risk for breast cancer was unwavering. Although our beloved Crystal passed away on July 11, 2022, her legacy continues through initiatives like the Crystal Blossom Foundation and events such as the Crystal Gala, with ongoing support from the community and organizations like Crystals Louisville.
